Like the song says, "times they are a changin’". Both the series and its creator have moved north starting a new chapter in both the life of the OLE series and Tom's life. For many of us, this move ends the long drives down to the Eugene area and the imaginative 9-hole temporary courses, and replaces them with shorter travel times and permanent 18 hole courses in the greater Portland area.
The OLE is run with the idea that less in more. We are not making a political statement or promoting local business. The entry fees are low so our tournaments are available to more people. We don't give out player's packages and the tournaments are not sanctioned with the PDGA, unless required by the park’s department for insurance reasons (none of the 2011 events will be sanctioned). This means our costs are low, our entry fees are low and that translates to more money going back to you in the form of prizes. This does not mean this is a fly by night operation. The series organizers have more than 30 years experience running tournaments. If you have participated in a PDGA tournament in the last 10 years (Great Northwest Open, Beaver State Fling, etc) more likely than not you were attending one of our tournaments. Think of the OLE like Southwest airlines, fun, inexpensive, competent, and gets you where you need to go without all the extra stuff that makes the other guys expensive.
The OLE series is designed to get you out of your house and playing disc golf over the cooler winter months. We are not promoting a competitive series, even though you can take it as seriously as you like, we want you to have a good time. If you are new, come out and participate in a safe low stress environment. For those who have been playing a while, come out throw some discs have a good time. Either way, if you play well you can and will win some money or prizes. Winning is winning, but participation is truly what matters.
